Over the last few years, Gavin has been researching and writing his first book, A Home for All Seasons, which spans 500 years in a quiet corner of England. It was published by Atlantic Books in June 2022.

Gavin has written for newspapers such as The Guardian, The Times and The Independent on Sunday and magazines and journals including Country Life, Literary ReviewThe Hudson Review, High Life, GramophoneBBC Music Magazine, GQ, Opera Now, Opera and Classical Music.

He also writes regularly for music festivals, concert halls and opera houses, including Wigmore Hall, the Royal Opera House, the Metropolitan Opera, the Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin and the Salzburg Festival.
