As well as being the commissioning editor of English-language programme notes for the Salzburg Festival since 2013, Gavin has written for The Guardian, The Times, The Independent on Sunday, High Life, The Hudson Review, Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, GQ.com, Opera Now, Opera and Classical Music. He has also edited programmes for the Salzburg Easter Festival and the Oxford Lieder Festival.
Gavin writes regularly for Wigmore Hall and the Royal Opera House and this season is also writing programme notes for Carnegie Hall, The Juilliard School, the Metropolitan Opera, New York, the LPO, the Pierre Boulez Saal and the Salzburg Festival.
He has contributed liner notes to recordings on Deutsche Grammophon, Harmonia Mundi, Hyperion Records, col legno, Tudor Classics, Stone Records, Challenge Classics, LSO Live, LPO Live, Newton Classics, Opus Arte and EMI.
