In 2019, Gavin presented a documentary series about life and culture in Germany in the 1920s for the Philharmonia Orchestra’s Weimar Berlin: Bittersweet Metropolis. He has created films about Mahler for the Colorado MahlerFest and about Thomas Hardy for the Oxford Lieder Festival, as well as appearing on screen for Semyon Bychkov’s Tchaikovsky Project in 2016.
Gavin makes frequent appearances on the BBC, including Radio 3, Radio 4 and local radio. On Radio 3, he has presented Opera on 3 and Lunchtime Concert, as well as appearing as a guest on Opera on 3, Music Matters, Live in Concert and at numerous BBC Proms Extra events. He has also provided interval features for three Radio 3 broadcasts of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Day Concert. On Radio 4, he has been interviewed by the Today programme, PM and Start the Week and has appeared as a panellist on Saturday Review.
Beyond the BBC, Gavin has written scripts for live broadcasts from San Francisco Opera on KDFC 102.1FM, given interviews for WFMT in New York and Chicago and contributed to podcasts for Glyndebourne, The Guardian and WNO.
